About Aventure SIM, and how we compare

Aventure SIM is run by the team behind Lotso Travel, an eSIM provider. How we collect prices, rank providers, source route guides and make money.

Who runs this site

Aventure SIM is run by the team behind Lotso Travel, an eSIM provider that resells Maya Mobile network plans at lotsotravel.com. Lotso appears in our comparisons, and we say so wherever it does, on every page and in the table rows themselves. The site is built and maintained by Space & Story, and the editor is Mahmoud Halat, founder of Space & Story in Toronto.

We started it because the questions adventure travellers ask (will my phone work at Dingboche, which network does this eSIM use in Patagonia, what do I carry when there's no mast) are badly served by generic "best eSIM" lists, including the ones eSIM companies, ours among them, publish about themselves.

How we make money

We don't take affiliate commissions from anyone, and none of the links on this site earn us money. The site exists to be useful to travellers, and also to make Lotso Travel better known where it's a good choice. Lotso makes money when people buy its eSIMs. That's a conflict of interest, and the rest of this page is how we try to keep it from bending the comparisons.

How we compare

Prices. For the price index and calculator, we opened each competitor's public country page on 31 October 2026 and recorded every plan shown, with the URL. Where we couldn't read a price (most of Ubigi's catalogue, Airalo's fixed-data plans, Holafly's Nepal page in euros), we left it blank and said so rather than estimate. Lotso's prices come from its own plan catalogue, filtered the way lotsotravel.com filters what it sells, and we publish the public price an anonymous visitor sees. Lotso charges referred customers less; we don't use that price, because competitors' public prices are the fair comparison.

Ranking. The cheapest provider wins, by the same rule for everyone, including when that pushes Lotso to the bottom, as it does in Nepal, Tanzania and Canada. Where Lotso has a weakness that a price can't show (it's data only, it doesn't name its networks, support is WhatsApp and email rather than around the clock), we say so in the same place we'd say it about a competitor.

What we didn't do. We haven't bought and tested every eSIM, and we don't claim to have measured speeds or coverage. We compared published prices, policies and coverage information. Where we quote a policy, we quote the provider's own words and link to the page.

Route guides. We haven't walked the routes for this site. Each guide is built from sources we name and date: national park and government pages, operators' statements, the mobile networks, and reputable trip reports from local guiding companies. When a source is old or undated, we say that next to it. When sources disagree, we show both.

Corrections

Prices change weekly and coverage changes as masts go up. If something here is wrong or out of date, email the editor through mahmoudhalat.com with the page and the source, and we'll fix it and update the date at the top of the page. We'll correct an error that favours Lotso as fast as one that doesn't.

Dates

Every page shows when it was last updated. The price data is a snapshot dated 31 October 2026; we'll refresh it rather than quietly change numbers, and the date on the index will tell you when we last did.
